Healthy For the Holidays – Part 2

healthy-for-the-holidays

Here is Part 2 of my 2 part Healthy for the Holidays series!  (in case you missed it, HERE is Part 1)

Bring Something healthy

Be the one to bring that veggie tray…everyone will thank you! Don’t worry, there will be plenty of the indulgent, rich stuff, and it’s nice to have a healthy option to snack on. (Tip on making friends: Support their goals…chances are your friends want to be healthy too)

Be like a boy/girl scout

Be prepared!  And don’t get too hungry. Make sure you plan your 3 sqaures a day( + snacks if you need them), so you don’t find yourself with a case of the hungries* surrounded by mountains of fudge and fruit cake (yum). Pack healthy snacks for when you are out shopping or traveling, because it’s harder to find  (and choose) healthy snack and meal options on the fly, especially with the hungries*

*(hungries = OMG, Must. Eat. Now!)

Thanks, but No Thanks.

Say No Thanks, to activities, parties, extra tasks at work and brownies that you-don’t-even-like-that-much-anyways. You time, energy and choice are a precious commodity, so don’t just give it away to events, people or food choices that you are REALLY, REALLY excited about. Setting good, positive boundaries help decrease emotional and physical breakdown during the holiday season. And if you have said yes, and the day of the event comes, you can totally, call the host and say “I’m sorry, but I am just not up to it today.” They will understand and honor your needs, and if that gets their undies all in a twist…it’s their undies and they can twist them up all they want.

Have Fun, not Food.

Let’s Party! People make the party, not the pasta salad. Don’t get me wrong, the food can be great, but it shouldn’t be the focus. So make a plate that fits within your wellness goals, and then move away from the food. Congregating in the kitchen or around the buffet table is a common practice but we will often find ourselves picking and unconsciously eating. So grab your plate and enjoy the scenery and conversation elsewhere.

Expert Tip: Never go to a party hungry…you will over indulge

Bonus, it’s so important so I am saying it again :

Be Calm and Carry on.

This is a Stressful Time of year, so continue to take the time to do those practices that keep you sane and calm the rest of the year like…

Happy Holidays my Friends!

XO,

Sally
