So we came back from our Holiday trip to a fridge full of over-ripe, bruised, slightly mushy, overall unsightly fruit…mostly pears and a few apples. I hate throwing away food, so I channeled my inner old lady, and asked her what they use to do in the ‘olden’ days with fruit such as this, knowing for a fact they didn’t just toss still-edible fruit in the trash.
The answer…Fruit Sauce, of course!
Alright honestly, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time or energy on this project so I did what any red-blooded busy American woman does when faced with this sorta dilemma…I grabbed my crockpot! I simply sliced it off the core and tossed it into my crockpot skin and all. Then added a 1 cup of water and cooked it on high for 4hours (you can also do low for 6-8ish hours if you aren’t at home). When the fruit is really soft, just pour it into a blender blend until you get the consistency you like. Allow to cool or chill and serve or can be placed in a resealable container and can be stored in the fridge for 2-3weeks.
Hope you love it!
XO,
Sally
P.S. I want to make a quick point…the crockpot isn’t known for making beautiful food, so be prepared for your fruit being darker and mushy than regular homemade apple or pear sauce. If you are looking for a pretty apple or pear Sauce recipe, here you go.
