Spiced Pear Sauce

Spiced Pear Sauce

When my kids were babies, I made most of their baby food.  Ok, but before you start rolling your eyes, I certainly didn’t intend on making  their baby food, it just kind of happened.  First of all, jarred baby food is really pretty expensive, 2nd, it don’t smell very good and 3rd-ly it didn’t taste very good by my standards of what fruits and vegetables should taste like. So one day, while feeding my baby a jar of brownish-greenish smashed peas, I thought…”I wonder how hard it would be just to boil some frozen peas and toss them in the blender to make my own baby-food?”

And guess what!  It really wasn’t very hard at all,  in fact it was super easy, way cheaper and pretty tasty! So, I started making all my own fruit and vegetable purees, aka baby food.  I would make a big batch and then freeze it in small containers to thaw for meals.

In fact, we loved it so much, we are still eating baby food in my house! today 😉   This recipe is a product of my adventures in baby food making, and because our  palettes have become more suffocated I have doctored the pears up a bit with vanilla and cinnamon , but when they were babies I just made it with water and pears.

So now, every time around this time of year, when pears are super cheap I buy pounds and pounds to make this yummy Spiced Pear Sauce for the kids to take in their lunches and for me to eat by the spoonful whenever I walk by the fridge.

I know making your own apple or pear sauce sounds intimidating, but try it, it’s really not as hard as it sounds.

Enjoy!
