The 10 Fiction Books You Will Love This Year!

Here are my favorite books of 2024!

Do you like to read? I love to read! And let me tell you, 2024 was a big reading year for me. I read 40 books last year, that’s nearly one book a week! OK, full disclosure: a lot of those were audiobooks because, let’s be honest, life is busy and it’s hard to find time to sit and read. So, I love being engrossed in a story; whether I’m driving, walking the dogs, working out, making dinner, or cleaning the kitchen, you will find me listening to something! And thanks to my ADD, the multi-tasking is comfortable. I know, I know, some people think listening to audiobooks isn’t “real” reading, but you know what? Whatever. I’m good with it and have your opinions, but listening/reading books brings me joy and makes my life richer, and I am here to share so you can find joy, too! And honestly, I retain more from listening because I’m an auditory learner.

I usually have a few books going at once: a fun fiction, a personal growth or self-help book, and something business or educational. I’m naturally curious, so non-fiction feeds that part of me and helps me grow. But oh, how I love a good fiction book! There’s something magical about getting lost in a story with rich characters and deep, multifaceted storylines. It’s like trying on different lives, gaining new perspectives, and escaping for a little while. A good fiction book can be its own kind of therapy.
Usually, I balance fiction and non-fiction pretty evenly, but not in 2024, I mainly started and finished fiction books (I am quick to put a book down if it doesn’t capture my interest; there are too many excellent books out there to waste your reading time on something you aren’t digging, IMHO. Last year, I just couldn’t get into the non-fiction books I started. Maybe I needed a little more levity and escapism in my life or some extra fun, juicy storytelling in my life. I don’t know, but it sure was fun!

Now, I won’t bore you with a rundown of all 40 books I read. Instead, I’ll share my top 10 favorite reads from 2024. Before we dive in, a quick note: I’m a sucker for fantasy, especially romantasy (yes, that’s a thing, and it’s glorious). I was also loving breezy “beach reads” this year. Thrillers and horror aren’t really my thing unless there’s a strong interpersonal dynamic to hook me.

So, without further ado, here are my favorite books of 2024, in no particular order:

1. The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden

OMG, this book had me on the edge of my seat! It’s suspenseful, twisty, and everything you want from a mystery.

2.The First Lie Wins by Ashley Easton

A twisty thriller that kept me guessing the whole time. Just when I thought I had it figured out, bam! Another curveball.

3. House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J. Maas can do no wrong in my eyes. This book was everything I wanted and more. I already told you I love a romantasy! (Book #3 in the Crescent City Series)

4.The Women by Kristin Hannah

This one hit me hard. I didn’t know much about female nurses in Vietnam, and this book opened my eyes. It’s a beautiful, heartbreaking story about trauma, resilience, and healing. Kristen Hannah is a master!

5. Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs

Creative, intriguing, and full of surprises. This one had such a unique premise, and I loved it!

6. The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson

A beautiful story about people finding themselves in unexpected situations and doing the best they can. Heartfelt and real.

7. Funny Story by Emily Henry

Emily Henry has officially stolen my heart. Her books are like the Sauvignon Blanc of literature—light, delightful, and perfect anytime. This one was laugh-out-loud funny and so charming. Emily Henry is definally on my watch list!

8. The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand

I’m pretty sure I read five of her books this year. They’re the ultimate feel-good beach reads. This one stood out for its mix of drama, romance, and a touch of mystery.

9. The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride

This was a surprise gem I found on the Libby app. It started a bit slow but unraveled into a beautiful story of resilience and community.

10. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Okay, confession: I’d read this one before but totally forgot until I picked it up again. It was just as suspenseful and gripping the second time around. If you love heists and a touch of magic. And the sequel is fantastic too!

Bonus: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Because one Maas book isn’t enough! I re-read the ACOTAR series this year because a friend finally decided to pick it up, and I needed to fangirl with her. This is book #2 and my favorite of the series! If you haven’t read ACOTAR, what are you waiting for?! You gotta!!

Have you read any of these? What did you think? I’d love to hear your favorites from 2024. Let’s swap recommendations so we can both start 2025 with a killer TBR list.

I’ll keep you posted on what I’m reading this year and plan to share another top 10 list at the end of 2025. Happy reading—or listening—however you prefer to enjoy your books!

P.S. I just finished The Wedding People by Alison Espach and it’s a must read and will be on my best books of 2025 list!

Happy Reading my friends!
