The Shop of Desires

This beautiful and poignant parable was shared with me by one of my readers and I had to share it with you all!  I want to send a big Thank you to Julia Minakova for allowing me to share her work.

Somewhere on the outskirts of the Universe, there is a shop. There hasn´t been a sign over it for a long while, not since it was blown away by the cosmic storm. The owner decided not to replace it because the residents already know perfectly well that the store sells wishes, dreams and desires.

The Shop is huge!

You can buy almost anything: big yachts, the home of your dreams, marriage, the post of the vice-president in a big company, money, a favorite job, perfect body, a victory in a competition, big cars, football clubs, power, success, diamond rings and much more. The only thing they don’t sell is life and death (the head office was in charge of these things, and it is located in another galaxy).

Some never venture into the shop; they prefer to stay at home and dream. But for those who are brave enough to enter the shop of desires, they must first find out the price of their wish. The prices are all different. Some of the prices seemed strange. For example, the cost of marriage almost nothing, but the cost of a happy life is very expensive. The price is personal responsibility for their own happiness, the ability to enjoy life, the awareness of their desires, refusal to meet expectations of other people, possible guilt, lots of gratitude, awareness of their value and importance, and the risk of losing some friends and acquaintances.

Not everyone who comes to the store was ready to pay for their desires. Some of them see the price, and turn around and leave. Others stand thoughtfully, counting their resources and wondering where they could get more. Some began to complain about the high prices, ask for a discount and wonder when there was going to be a sale. And there were those who had been saving for their most cherished wishes and are then able to leave with their wishes wrapped in beautiful, rustling paper. While others stand around looking at these customers with envy, whispering to one another “they probably know the owner, that´s why they got their desires so easily and without any effort”. The owner of the store is often asked to reduce the prices in order to increase customer satisfaction, but he always refuses, saying that the quality of the wishes would suffer.

When the owner was asked if he was afraid to go broke, he shook his head and replied “At all times there are brave souls who are willing to take risks, change their lives and to abandon the familiar and predictable. They believe in themselves and their dreams, they will find the necessary means and resources to pay for their desires”.

When was the last time you went to your shop of desires?

How much does your dream cost?

Do you have the means to procure it?

Do you have the power to obtain the necessary resources?

Are you ready to fulfill your wishes?

P.S. On the door of the store there is a sign:

“If your wish has not been fulfilled, it has not been paid for yet.”

xo,

Sally

Now I want to hear from you.  What are your dreams and desires?  Are you willing to pay for them?
