A sweet and savory roasted Brussels sprouts recipe that supports natural detox and fits perfectly into a healthy holiday menu.

If you’ve been looking for a side dish that’s both incredibly delicious and genuinely good for you, let me introduce you to these Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Pecans. This recipe has become one of my absolute favorites—not just because it tastes amazing (though it really does), but because it’s packed with nutrients that support your body’s natural detoxification processes and overall wellness.

Why Brussels Sprouts Deserve a Spot on Your Plate

Let’s talk about Brussels sprouts for a moment. I know they sometimes get a bad rap from childhood dinner table memories, but hear me out! These little green powerhouses are part of the cruciferous vegetable family, which also includes broccoli, cauliflower, and kale. And when it comes to supporting your body’s natural detoxification systems, cruciferous vegetables are absolute superstars.

Brussels sprouts contain special compounds called glucosinolates, which your body converts into active substances that support liver function—and your liver is your body’s primary detoxification organ. Think of these compounds as giving your liver the tools it needs to do its job more efficiently. They help activate detoxification enzymes that break down and eliminate toxins we’re exposed to every day, from environmental pollutants to the natural byproducts of metabolism.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Brussels sprouts are also loaded with antioxidants, including vitamin C and kaempferol, which help protect your cells from oxidative stress. They’re an excellent source of vitamin K, which is essential for bone health and proper blood clotting. Plus, they’re rich in fiber—about 4 grams per cup—which supports digestive health and helps your body eliminate waste effectively.

What I love most about Brussels sprouts is that they’re nutrient-dense without being calorie-dense. You get a tremendous amount of nutritional value in every bite, making them an excellent choice when you’re looking to nourish your body well.

The Power of Healthy Fats: Why Pecans Make This Dish Complete

Now, let’s talk about those pecans. Adding them to this recipe isn’t just about texture and flavor (though they definitely deliver on both fronts)—it’s about creating a nutritionally balanced dish that helps your body absorb all those amazing nutrients from the Brussels sprouts.

Pecans are one of the most antioxidant-rich tree nuts available. They’re packed with healthy monounsaturated fats, the same type of heart-healthy fats found in olive oil and avocados. These fats are essential for hormone production, brain health, and—here’s the key—helping your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, K, and E from those Brussels sprouts.

Each serving of pecans also provides minerals like manganese, copper, and zinc, which play important roles in metabolism and immune function. And because they contain both healthy fats and protein, they help slow down the absorption of carbohydrates, which means more stable blood sugar levels and sustained energy.

I also use avocado oil in this recipe for similar reasons. It has a high smoke point, making it perfect for roasting, and it’s another source of those beneficial monounsaturated fats. When you combine cruciferous vegetables with healthy fats, you’re creating a synergistic effect that maximizes the nutritional benefits of both.

A Touch of Sweetness for Balance

The maple syrup in this recipe serves a dual purpose. First, it balances the slight bitterness that Brussels sprouts can sometimes have, especially if you’re new to eating them. That touch of natural sweetness, combined with the warm spice of cinnamon, transforms these vegetables into something truly crave-worthy.

Second, roasting Brussels sprouts with a bit of maple syrup helps them caramelize beautifully, creating those crispy, golden edges that make them absolutely irresistible. The natural sugars in the maple syrup encourage that delicious browning process, while the cinnamon adds warmth and depth without any additional calories.

Perfect for Any Occasion

What I love about this recipe is how versatile it is. These Brussels sprouts work beautifully as a side dish for everything from a casual weeknight dinner to your holiday table. They pair wonderfully with roasted chicken, grilled salmon, or even as part of a plant-based meal alongside quinoa and chickpeas.

They’re also fantastic for meal prep. You can roast a big batch at the beginning of the week and enjoy them throughout. They reheat beautifully and maintain most of their texture—just pop them back in the oven for a few minutes to crisp them up again.

Making This Recipe Your Own

While this recipe is delicious as written, don’t be afraid to make it your own! Here are a few variations I love:

  • Add a splash of balsamic vinegar in the last few minutes of roasting for a tangy twist
  • Toss in some dried cranberries with the pecans for extra sweetness and festive color
  • Sprinkle with crumbled goat cheese or feta right before serving
  • Add minced garlic to the oil mixture for extra flavor depth
  • Try walnuts instead of pecans for a different flavor profile

The Bottom Line

This Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Pecans recipe is more than just a tasty side dish—it’s a way to actively support your body’s natural detoxification processes while enjoying every single bite. You’re getting the powerful detox-supporting compounds from cruciferous vegetables, the healthy fats your body needs to thrive, and a dose of antioxidants that help protect your cells.

At just 230 calories per serving, with over 5 grams of fiber and 17 grams of healthy fats, this dish delivers serious nutritional value. It’s proof that eating well doesn’t have to be complicated or bland—sometimes the simplest recipes are the most nourishing.

So go ahead and give these a try. Your taste buds will thank you, and your body will too!
