Setting Your New Year Goals

New Year Goals

plan-your-new-years-resolution

I know, I know, it is only October, but  I am already starting to make plans and create my goals for 2017!

Why am I starting so early?

Well, a couple reasons

– It takes time to create thoughtful and reasonable goals and strategies.

– The Holiday season starts in November, and that time is so busy, so I need to start now or it is January 1 before I know it!

– It takes about 3months to really start seeing results from your efforts.  So whether you are trying to lose weight, make personal changes in your life or improve your business, you will really start seeing the full effects of your efforts in 3months (So keep that in mind when you feel like giving up!  Keep going,  It will pay off!)

I wanted to walk you through my goal setting process so you can start creating real strategy around your goals —> change your life!

  • Step 1: Understand your Why. What is the real reason you want to make this change? How will your life be different? Why is this change important to you and the people in your life?
    • When we know our “Why” we can fully invest in making the changes it takes to create change in our lives.
  • Step 2: Identify Obstacles: Ask yourself in a nonjudgmental way, “What normally gets in my way?” “What do I see could me a struggle or limitation for me when I am doing this?”
    • This allows you to create strategy around these limitations, so when you encounter them, you have prepared yourself. Support yourself in such a way that meeting your goal easy!
  • Step 3: Create Do-able Action Steps – When making changes or creating goals in our life, it’s important to  break down the goal into small daily and weekly action steps. Here is an example: say you want to lose weight, you know (from step 2) that you one of your biggest obstacles to weight loss is your mindless eating at night, and what you need to to not do that is to eat a good filling lunch and dinner and manage your stress in the evening. So in order to do this, you need prepare a weekly menu and go to the grocery store during the weekend…
    • Schedule these tasks on your calendar and make them non-negotiable.

Following these three steps will help you create some forward momentum in your life, to move you closer to your goals and a life you love!

And remember keeping your commitments to yourself takes practice, so congratulate yourself on your successes everyday

Sally
